To Write Love on Her Arms, (TWLOHA) is a non-profit organization that helps those struggling with depression, addiction, self-injury and thoughts of suicide find hope. They exist to encourage, inform, inspire and invest directly into treatment and recovery of those that need help.
Their mission is to inspire people to start talking about these problems, not ignore them. It started with a story about a girl named Renee, who struggles with addiction, depression, low self-esteem and, at the core of her being, just wanting to be loved. What started as one person reaching out to another as a way to help them has turned into a full blown ministry that helps people on a local and global level.
There are many, many artists that have devoted time, talent and treasure to this battle. So many, in fact, that I won’t even bother to list them. Needless to say though, they are worthy of yours as well.
From their MySpace page…
To Write Love on Her Arms is a work in progress. This began with one broken girl, one painful night; addiction, depression, cutting. This is a glimpse at the five days that followed, a decision to love and to begin telling her true story. To Write Love on Her Arms is becoming something bigger, something hopeful. It’s the realization of what life can be when we commit to meeting a need. A friend of mine told me there’s no such thing as suicide prevention. This is an attempt to prove him wrong, to say that love can change a life. We can hold back the darkness. Rescue is possible. More soon to come. Join us as we continue to write this story, and as we begin to offer hope to the many hopeless who walk these dark roads. A Jimmy Eat World lyric has been stuck in my head today, “Believe your voice can mean something.”
I encourage you to please go read Renee’s story. Think about someone in your life that may have been affected by depression or loneliness and think of a way to help.
Now, you can see Renee describe life two years after people and God intervened in her life.
It’s amazing to see that, even though we stumble and fall on occasion, we frail humans still have the ability to bounce back and keep going. I mean, Jesus fell 3 times while carrying his cross. Sometimes even he needed a little help.
As human beings, it’s often hard to ask for help, and it’s often even harder to give that help to someone that obviously needs it. Think about this: If you see someone struggling, offer a hand. If you, yourself, are struggling, ask for help. We all need each other to get through life (Now I sound like a Sanctus Real song), so don’t be afraid to reach out and risk. This is something I struggle with as well. Constantly.
I’ll make an effort if you do.

A while back, I talked about how the boys men from New Kids on the Block were going to make a comeback. Album, single, tour… all that stuff. They got their first exposure to the spotlight in a new century this morning on the Today Show, and it was…. Interesting. 30 (Late 30’s I would [...]Posted on 16 May 2008 | 11:30 am
Lindsey, from Ilia, dropped us a line to let us know how things are going for them. Looks like the girls are going to be taking some time off the road and heading into the studio for some creative work. Then again, if I had their schedule this summer, I’d be looking to take a [...]Posted on 16 May 2008 | 8:30 am

The countdown begins! I have my paper chain all ready. There is only one more week until Spirit West Coast Del Mar and I’m SO excited! Since my update last week, I’ve been doing research on all the bands that are playing this festival. Trying to find any fun facts or weird trivia to get inside [...]Posted on 15 May 2008 | 2:30 pm
A few years ago I received a 12″ vinyl record in the mail for a band called Leeland. Well, since I didn’t have turntables set up in my cubical I quickly jumped over to their myspace page and immediately heard a passionate, progressive and worshipful band. This GRAMMY and four-time Dove Award nominated band [...]Posted on 15 May 2008 | 11:30 am
We’ve had a lot of people stop by and discuss if Neil Diamond is a Christian over the last few weeks. In fact, that debate is still going strong, but here’s one thing we can all agree on and celebrate: The new project “Home Before Dark” has entered the Billboard Top 200 chart in the [...]Posted on 15 May 2008 | 8:30 am
