For the glory of ME?

Who do you live for?

Ever really thought that through? Who are you really living for? Yourself or God? I’ve had to ask that questions of myself a lot lately. Checking my motives, checking my thoughts, checking myself really…

Driving home last night I was flipping stations when I came across a JAY-Z song called “Forever Young” that I remembered loving back in the day. As I was rocking to the beat it kinda hit me, how SELF CENTERED those lyrics really were.

Fear not die, I’ll be alive for a million years, bye bye’s
are not for legends, I’m forever young, my name shall survive

Through the darkest blocks, over kitchen stoves over Pyrex pots
My name shall be passed down to generations
While debating up in barber shops

Those are just some of the thoughts woven into a message of making yourself as great as you can, so that your name will live on forever thus keeping you “Forever Young.” As I heard the song it literally struck me how wrong that was and how backwards that is. We have such a short time on this earth then we are gone, like vapors in the wind is our time here compared to eternity. God has a plan and a purpose for you, yes. But its not one of self promotion, its one that makes HIS NAME greater so we can bring as many people into the hope and glory of Jesus as possible. Our self centered lives built on likes, followers, friends and fame all lead to a hopeless end of ME, ME, ME. One that I call fruitless. I’m learning everyday on this journey that I would rather be about my fathers business, than my own. Making His name famous, not mine. Seeing more people come to know the goodness of a life in Christ. I call that a life that’s fruitful.
