5 Things Everyone Should Know About God

Phil Wickham’s song “This is Amazing Grace” lists so many beautiful attributes of God. We’ve put together a short list. Read through it and be reminded how amazing it is to serve our God. Next time you hear the song on WAY-FM, you’ll be reminded again!

1. He bore my cross.

Christians often talk about how Jesus died on the cross for us, but how often do we think of the story in Phil Wickham’s terms? We mess up so much. We deserve to be separated from God (Isaiah 59:2). It’s our cross, but Jesus took it so we didn’t have to (1 Peter 2:24).

2. He shakes the whole earth with holy thunder.

The church often talks about how loving God is – and it’s so true! In fact, we’ll get to that topic in a second, but when was the last time you thought about having a healthy fear of the Lord? “Fear of the Lord” means having the highest respect for who He is ( Proverbs 8:13), what He can do, and just how much He loves you anyway (Matthew 10:28-31). God, though very much a part of our everyday lives, should not be taken lightly. Recognizing who He is means the beginning of knowledge (Proverbs 1:7). It puts things in perspective.

3. He leaves us breathless in awe and wonder.

When is the last time you were overcome with the amount of beauty in the world? It could have been at a beautiful sunset, a sweet friendship, or seeing dreams fulfilled. Each taste of beauty we experience here on earth is just a hint of the magnificence that God has in store for us in heaven (Ecclesiastes 3:11).

4. He brings our chaos back into order.

No matter what’s going on in your life right now, putting your focus on God and His kingdom will bring everything back into perspective. (Hebrews 12:1-2, Proverbs 16:3, Matthew 13:18-21)

5. He makes us His sons and daughters.

Here’s that part about the incredible and infallible love of our God! If you believe in Him and serve Him, you are now His son or daughter. He loves you so much and there is He is overjoyed when His children give their lives to Him (Romans 5:8, Romans 8:17-19).
