Dear Wally

I’m 51 years old and I have been sick for several years. I had to leave NY to come here to live with my parents since I couldn’t really take care of myself.

My mom has been taking care of me all these years and I literally would not have survived without her. I’ve been through a lot medically…emotionally. ..

Now my mom has just been diagnosed with breast cancer and I want to take care of her and hopefully I can. I thank the Lord every day for all the blessings I do have and am always praying.

I’m so confused though. I’m not sure if I’m doubting God to lift us all up and things will all work out or if he’s kind of on the sidelines with us while all these bad things are happening. I could really use some help.

Thank you

I am so sorry to hear about both yours and your mom’s medical problems.

I can say that God is not on the sidelines while you go through this. The reality is we live in a broken world with sin death and disease. Sadly those 3 things affect all of us, even good people.

Great believers get sick and die every day. My mother-in-law was one of those. But the difference is how we choose to go through tough times.

She chose to point people to God through all of her pain and hurt. She was a light for Him until the very end and when she went, people saw her faith and God’s faithfulness through it all.

God promises never to leave or forsake us and I believe that is truth. God never promises to walk us around life’s problems, but He does say He will carry us through them.

There are a couple great songs like Praise You in the Storm by Casting Crowns or Even If by Kutless that might help bring you strength during this time. I do not believe this will be an easy time for you but I do believe that leaning on God can help make it easier to bare.

I would encourage you to look for His provision through this. It might be small but He always gives us what we need when we need it and it is usually just enough and just in time.

So look for it and praise God for His presence in the problem. I hope that helps you out a little, and I hope this time of trouble will be short for you, but even more than that I hope through this you experience God and His love and faithfulness like you have never felt before.

Take care
