WAY-FM Meteorologist Jennifer Narramore has the wrap up on Hurricane Hermine!

Hurricane Hermine made landfall around 130am EDT just east of St. Marks. The first hurricane to hit Florida since 2005.

Here is the 5am EDT update from the National Hurricane Center:

The center of Hermine was located about 50 miles NE of Tallahassee with maximum sustained winds of 70 mph. It is back down to tropical storm status. Movement to the NNE at 14mph and pressure at 988 mb.

Hurricane Watches and Warnings have been discontinued.

Tropical Storm Warnings are in effect but have been discontinued west of Indian Pass.

Hermine is expected to continue its trek to the NNE and the current speed today and Saturday.

On the forecast track, the center of Hermine should continue to move farther inland across southeastern Georgia today and into the Carolinas tonight and Saturday.

As Hermine continues inland, additional weakening will occur but heavy rain bands will continue to feed into parts of Florida and the Southeast.

Still the risk of an Isolated tornado especially early today mainly north and east of Tallahassee.

The combination of a dangerous storm surge and the tide will continue to cause normally dry areas near the coast to be flooded by rising waters moving inland from the shoreline. There is
a danger of life-threatening inundation within the next 12 to 24 hours along the Gulf coast of Florida from Indian Pass to Longboat Key.

We have had widespread power outages due to trees knocked down on power lines. From the NWS, rain fall totally have been around 3-6 “ with the lower totals west toward Panama City and higher totals in the 4-8” range into Leon and Wakulla counties.

The radar is showing drier air in place through Panama City and the storm is lifting away from Tallahassee. We should see improving weather through the morning with diminishing rain.

Please avoid traveling today if possible. Allow the road to be cleared of trees and allow any flooding that has occurred to recede.

We still have a chance for scattered showers/thunderstorms (not associated with Hermine) to develop today and at times this weekend. With the copious amounts of moisture still in place, heavy downpours are possible which could hinder clean up efforts.
