Jr Software Engineer

The Junior Software Engineer is a skilled technology innovator who loves problem solving. The Junior Software Engineer is responsible for managing, integrating, and maintaining back-end and customer facing technologies including the interchange of data between technologies. This position is responsible for managing Hope Media Group source code assets, user interfaces, and documenting technology solutions. The engineer will develop information systems through research on existing operations: designing, developing, and deploying software solutions to ensure all teams at Hope Media Group can “take technology for granted.” We have a small, but mighty, team of engineers and are looking to grow as our business grows. We are looking for someone who creatively thinks outside the box and isn’t afraid to roll up their sleeves to dig into a solution. The Junior Software Engineer learns and understands Hope Media Group’s ministry, business processes, workflows, and user needs. This role provides proactive and relevant solutioning and has experience with quality assurance.

Essential Functions

Systems & Technology

  • Learn, understand, and recommend ministry relevant process and workflow automation.
  • Design, develop, and maintain external customer facing and internal employee applications and systems.
  • Help simplify Hope Media Group’s technology footprint and user experience.
  • Manage code assets and versioning using Git based methods.
  • Follow, promote, and mature agile methodology.
  • Adheres to and matures our technology architecture and data management standards.
  • Assist in the implementation of automated test and deployment.
  • Develop and maintain application/system data structures.
  • Develop and maintain system integrations, and RESTful services.
  • Provide end user assistance in and council for CRM, web, mobile, business, and radio support application

Demonstrated Faith

  • Pray for coworkers in team meetings
  • Lead prayer in large group settings as needed
  • Pray for donors when called upon to do so
  • Use Christian principles to work through conflict as outlined by the Culture tool kit
  • Participate in Sharathon, PowerDrive and Thankathon, and pray for donors over the phone as needed
  • Participate in ministry wide Christian bible studies
  • Attend weekly Staff Gatherings for prayer and devotions

Requirements and Qualifications:

Education:

Bachelor’s degree

Experience:

  • Experience developing applications using the fully synchronous behavior of PHP, object-oriented PHP programming and MVC design patterns.
  • Experience developing user facing applications in .Net based platforms.
  • Experience delivering advanced integrations, APIs, SOA, and micro service architectures.
  • Experience implementing authentication, accessibility, and security compliance user authentication and authorization between multiple systems, servers, and environments, including OAuth & SSO.
  • Experience with SQL/NoSQL/MySQL databases and their declarative query languages.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Demonstrate understanding of full stack development frameworks.
  • Proven ability in communicating frequently, simply, proactively with users and peers.
  • Consistent track record of delivery: targeting time, budget, and requirements.
  • Deep understanding of ministry needs and creatively translate needs to relevant technical solutions.
  • Strong knowledge of the common PHP or web server exploits and their solutions.
  • Practice and demonstration in designing and developing web based and mobile technologies such as JavaScript, web hooks, HTML5, iOS, Android, and CSS3.
  • Ability to apply fundamental design principles for scalable, supportable software application development.
  • Understanding database schemas that represent and support business processes.
  • Conversant with analytical data modeling, ET&L, BI reporting
  • Proficient understanding of code versioning tools and Git based methods/tools.
  • Ability to self-teach new technologies and/or programing languages.
  • Understanding of a non-profit and the unique aspects of this business (preferred)
  • Ability to accept direction from a Scrum Master and quickly shift projects as priorities shift.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills with an innate attention to detail.
  • Ability to work both independently as well as with a team.
  • Ability to work in a remote team environment.
  • Background in advanced analytics and/or data science.
  • Heart for Christian ministry
  • Strong moral character
  • Has a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. Spiritually grounded and working knowledge of scripture
  • Must be an active member of a Bible believing local church
