5 Lies I Used to Believe About Being A Christian
Joy here, and this article was exactly the reminder I needed today! Growing up in the church there are so many things that I initially believed about the church that were not true!
I specifically related to #3 in this article, the lie that “You shouldn’t express your struggles or doubts.” For the majority of my life I felt like doubts were bad and that God would be angry if I looked weak and uncertain in my faith. I have come to find that the opposite is true!
Remember the Bible verse 2 Corinthians 12:9, “But my grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” I didn’t understand this verse because it didn’t fit with the lie that I believed. Sharing your weakness and your struggles is actually GOOD, it allows God to work without our self-sufficiency getting in the way. In fact, sharing our issues with one another is exactly what the church needs MORE of! How can we properly care for one another when we are hiding our struggles and doubts? We certainly can’t hide any of these things from God.
I have learned that when we stop trying to be our own quiet heroes, God can get the glory for fixing the messes in our lives. Trust me, it’s not easy to be vulnerable and honest in this way. It has literally been like learning to speak a new language for me to share my struggles and doubts, however God has continually used it for His glory!
