worn.

It’s been a bizarre week. One of my first back after spending some time with some awesome kids in Africa.

I think everyone expects to come back changed… selling all of their stuff… feeling selfish… wanting to cure diseases. Instead, this week I have watched families struggling and breaking apart; kids who are hurting so much they spend their days trying to hold back tears; seeing moms who want to love their kids, but have no concept how to really take care of them and sisters who love their siblings and are having to watch them learn and hurt the hard way.

And all of that is happening here.

I get discouraged pretty easily because the hurt feels really big and un-fixable.
But I serve a big God. Who fixes “un-fixable.”

Tenth Avenue North has a song called “Worn” that I love in moments like this. Turns out they’re much better writers than I am.

Let me see redemption win
Let me know the struggle ends
That you can mend a heart
That’s frail and torn
I wanna know a song can rise
From the ashes of a broken life
And all that’s dead inside can be reborn
Cause I’m worn
