Finding the guts to trust

Fear is one of those crippling emotions. It robs us of our time, our decision making ability, our strength…the list can go on.

Over the past month I’ve been reading through the book of Proverbs and this verse was one of those #SlapYouInTheFace kinda verses for me on that topic.

Fear of man will prove to be a snare, but whoever trusts in the Lord is kept safe. -Proverbs 29:25

Fear of man will prove to be a snare. Snares are meant to tie up, to trap, or catch something and that something is you! We fear because we don’t trust. But why? Why do we fear the things this world and life can throw at us when we serve a God who is simply GREATER.

Job loss??? I know a God who has made ways where there were none.

Illness??? I know a God who has healed the sick and given sight to the blind.

Family trouble??? I know a God who has mended broken hearts and softened even the hardest of hearts.

Our God truly is GREATER and when we can finally begin to trust in that fact we can find the courage we need to be brave in the face of fear. Courage helps us step out of fear’s paralysis and turn its nervous edge into power. Power that comes from the trust we have in God. Knowing that the last half of that verse is truth. Whoever TRUSTS in the Lord is kept safe.

So next time fear creeps in ask yourself…why am I afraid? What am I afraid of? Then hand those things over to God knowing that all those who trust in HIM will be kept safe.
